NATURE-BASED THERAPY
An outdoor style of therapy that can lead to self-discovery, inner peace, and healing.
WHAT IS NATURE-BASED THERAPY?
There is something about being in nature that helps us slow down. Away from the noise, distractions, and demands of everyday life, many people find it easier to breathe, reflect, and reconnect with themselves. Nature has a unique way of helping us step out of autopilot and become more present with our thoughts, emotions, and experiences.
Nature-based therapy combines the healing benefits of the natural world with the structure and intention of psychotherapy. Rather than meeting exclusively within the walls of an office, sessions may take place while walking a trail, sitting beside a stream, exploring a park, or engaging with the landscape in a meaningful way. The natural environment becomes more than a backdrop—it becomes part of the therapeutic experience itself.
I often view nature as a mirror. Just as the changing seasons, winding trails, storms, and forests tell stories of challenge, resilience, growth, and transformation, our own lives reflect many of those same patterns. Nature provides countless opportunities for reflection, metaphor, and insight that can deepen the therapeutic process in ways that are often difficult to replicate indoors.
Research continues to demonstrate the benefits of spending time in nature, including reduced stress, improved mood, increased mindfulness, and an enhanced sense of well-being. When combined with therapy, these benefits can create a powerful environment for healing, personal growth, trauma recovery, identity exploration, and self-discovery.
At its heart, nature-based therapy is about reconnection—reconnecting with the natural world, reconnecting with the present moment, and reconnecting with yourself.
